Director of Communications and Publications

Job Description:
1. Write, distribute and post online feature stories and news releases on member and volunteer accomplishments, as well as related program and league updates.
2. Track player progress in sectional and national events and promote success to hometown publications.
3. Communicate regularly with industry media contacts.
4. Attend several major USTA and Southern Section events requiring media coverage.
5. Prepare and coordinate content and production of the USTA Southern Section yearbook.
6. Prepare and coordinate content and production of the USTA Southern Section magazine insert.
7. Regular correspondence and coordination the USTA Southern State offices with regard to publications and public relations.
8. Oversee the marketing department internship program, including recruitment, hiring, and daily management.
9. Provide staff support to the Public Relations Committee, Awards Subcommittee, and Publications Subcommittee on projects as determined by the committee or committee chairperson.
10. Other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director and / or Director of Marketing.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
Yearbook produced on a timely basis with accurate information and within budget.
Regular updating of articles and press releases on the USTA Southern Section web site
Coverage of USTA Southern Section events through various media outlets.
Greater public awareness of USTA Southern Section programs – both proactive and reactive promotion of organization.
Qualifications:
Strong written and verbal communications skills and journalistic writing necessary
Experience in both public and media relations
Working knowledge of web design and maintenance
Computer knowledge including strong skills in MS Office, Word, Excel and Access and experience in desktop publishing (Quark/Photoshop)
Organizational skills to handle multiple tasks
Efficient typing skills and Internet knowledge
Ability to work both autonomously and with others
Publication deadlines and some knowledge of print production and editing helpful
